Lists to myself.

First I should say that I just got an e-mail from Amy and she's in London going to fabulous gay clubs and loving it. Number of times she and I went out in San Francisco in the year plus that I've known her: zero. But she doesn't have a valid ID, yada yada. Anyway, I'm happy that she's having a wonderful time, although to be honest I'm jealous as all hell because that's where I want to be, paying $10 for a sandwich and $15 a drink.

Second, I would like to establish a principle about my blogs: no editing. Once a blog has been posted it will remain permanently, typos and errors for all to see. I think that this forum should be a reflection of where I am at a particular moment and not eligible for revision.

Books to read this summer.

As a history major I've read a lot of good books about the American Revolution, taxation in America, slavery, intellectual history, and on and on. I've also taken my fair share of economics, poli sci, finance, and other fun subjects. However, I seem to have missed important canons of literature in high school and college, and it's time. Time to become familiar with them and form my own opinions about the works. With that in mind, I've created a list of books, plays, and stories I will soon read. Here goes:

1. Ovid, Metamorphoses
2. Faulkner, The Sound and the Fury
3. Tolstoy, Anna Karenina
4. Adams, The Education of Henry Adams
5. Chekov, various plays
6. Ibsen, various plays
7. Brecht, various plays
8. Nabakov, Lolita
9. Proust, Swann's Way
10. Eco, Foucault's Pendulum
11. O'Neill, Long Day's Journey into Night

Places I want to go. Soon.

1. London
2. Australia
3. Spain
4. Italy
5. Iceland
6. Greece
7. Israel

1. Waking Life
2. Animatrix
3. Grey Gardens (again)
